New courses and opportunities

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

We are very happy to announce that Lansdowne will be introducing the Duke of Edinburgh Award from September 2011. This is a highly respected scheme and one which is extremely attractive to Universities and future employers. It will allow students, to develop existing skills or acquire new ones while also improving their problem solving and communication skills. The expedition element lends itself perfectly for students to improve their teamwork and leadership skills. The volunteering section gives students a chance to give back to the local community and students can chose from a variety of projects such as conservation, youth work or fundraising for a certain charity.

The cost of the initial training in College will be covered by Lansdowne. The cost of the expeditions will be about £365 including all the pre-training, lectures, practice expedition and qualifying expedition with qualified D of E leaders. We hope that many students will get involved in this new initiative. For more information please see the official website -http://www.dofe.org

English IGCSE

From September 2011 Lansdowne will be offering the Cambridge IGCSE in English Literature. The qualification is available as an addition to GCSE English and is accepted by universities and employers as proof of real knowledge and understanding, including the ability to read, interpret and evaluate texts through the study of literature.

AQA Design and Technology

Lansdowne is also now able to offer AQA Design and Technology (Systems and Control) at A level.  This is an exciting and ‘practical heavy’ subject, ideally suited to those students wishing to study Engineering at University.  Full details are on the Lansdowne College website .
