One-year A levels at CIFE colleges
One-year A-level courses cover the entire AS and A2 syllabuses in about 30 weeks of teaching. Each subject has its own strategy, especially if coursework is involved, but in most you can expect to take at least two out of the three AS exams in January to reduce the load of exams at the end of the course.
These courses must move fast and they will require a lot of work. However, although it's true you need to work consistently and hard, the key challenges are actually developing full skills and examination awareness in the limited time available. That's where expert teaching comes into its own. It's another reason to discuss your plans in detail with those who know you well and with CIFE staff, to check whether you have the skills and experience to cope.
Most students taking one-year courses have done at least a year of post-GCSE study already, either in the UK or abroad. They are a good safety-net for the student who needs a new subject or two for the upper-sixth or who faces retakes. They are also an option for strong overseas students who have the right language skills.
