Ashbourne Independent Sixth-form College

News flash!
Open Evening Weds 14th Nov 2007: Come and meet... more

Introduction
Ashbourne students benefit from an excellent opportunity of studying any combination of subjects offered in the prospectus. Students are taught in tutorial-sized groups, never exceeding ten. The Personal Tutor system enables students to liaise with members of the Senior Management Team that encourages a good rapport and a direct line of communication for both academic and pastoral issues.

Facilities and Environment
Ashbourne's location in Kensington has proved to be part of its attraction to its students; however, it also offers its teaching in well-equipped, pleasant teaching rooms; refurbished science laboratories; an ICT room complete with broad band, Internet connection; two art studios; a dark room; a new media centre, a common room and reference library. The atmosphere is informal and friendly.

Why choose Ashbourne?
Ashbourne is a successful, co-educational Sixth Form College whose students largely comprise two-year A level students. It also welcomes students that wish to take their A levels in one year, eighteen months, 1-term re-takes and GCSEs.

Students may choose any subject for A level. Ashbourne is a centre of excellence for both the sciences and all traditional, mainstream subjects. It expertly prepares its students for Medicine, dentistry and the natural sciences. This year, Ashbourne is also keen to build on its innovative and imaginative theatre arts programme. Its outstanding record for fine and applied arts continues to deserve its reputation. Students are also given the opportunity to design and model glamorous and or extrovert outfits for the annual School Revue, a talent show that is produced on DVD for each student's portfolio and personal record of achievement.

University Entrance
The clear aim of the vast majority of Ashbourne's students is to gain a place at a leading university. The one-to-one sessions with Personal Tutors enable students to benefit from professional, helpful advice and guidance with their application from inception to completion. The College has two mentors: Professor John Foreman, FRCP, and Dr Douglas Miller, a practising dental surgeon, both of whom work with the students and their Personal Tutors to facilitate a successful application and interview.

Activities
The BAC inspectors praised the College for its imaginative and broad range of activities which comprise seminars on time management skills; maximising memory; examination technique; understanding the basics of first aid; visiting galleries, theatres and enjoying a variety of sports at all levels.

Accommodation
The College has links with several well maintained, approved hostels that are in the Kensington/Notting Hill area. A member of the Senior Management Team is responsible for ensuring that students' requirements and requests are, insofar as it is possible, accommodated. Students may also stay with an approved host family.

Open Evening
On Wednesday 14th November 2007 Ashbourne will be holding an open evening at the college giving the opportunity to meet members of the college's teaching staff, student body and management. We are still accepting students for both our January and September intake. This event offers a real insight into the type of teacher Ashbourne employs and helps further enhance Ashbourne's reputation for family atmosphere, where staff and student meet on a first name basis.

Space at this event is limited, so if you would like to attend please contact us (see links above) as soon as possible. The event will commence at 7:00pm and should finish around 9:00pm.
