Our College
Cambridge Centre for Sixth-form Studies (CCSS) is one of the UK's leading independent sixth-form colleges, specialising in A-level and GCSE courses, and preparing students for entry into universities in the UK and abroad.
We have about 190 students aged from 15 to 21. Half of them stay in our boarding accommodation and the other half are day students. The College is based in the exciting university town of Cambridge, close to the railway station and 50-minutes' train-ride from London, with easy connections to international airports.
Our Courses
We offer a one-year GCSE course, a two-year A-level course and a one-year A-level University Entrance course
Student-centred approach
CCSS offers a unique and individual approach to learning, building a relationship of mutual respect between students and staff and developing self-confidence within each student.
The teaching at CCSS is a collaborative and shared learning experience, which fosters focus and motivation, and creates a very productive and exciting schooling environment and experience for every student at the College. The informality and strength of working relationships lead to a bond of loyalty between students and staff, and the trust and independence that students have at the College give them freedom to make the right choices and decisions for them in their learning.
Unique blend of group and personal tuition
Classes at CCSS are less than half the average for the independent sector in the UK and much smaller than in state schools. The average class size at CCSS is five pupils so everyone gets the attention they need.
As well as group classes, all A-level students have additional ‘one-to-one’ sessions in each subject. These tutorials allow students and teachers to work together on areas of uncertainty or interest, analysing examination questions and discussing outstanding answers and the strategy for creating these answers.
Personal tutors develop effective relationships with teachers and parents. They meet each of their students weekly to talk over academic matters, such as time management, work output and preparing the strongest possible university application, as well as any issues of personal concern for the student
Pathway to University
CCSS pride themselves in being a college offering a “pathway to university” giving their students support and guidance to ensure that they are well prepared in all aspects of the university application, from personal statement writing and interview practicing to university visits and careers workshops.
The success of the CCSS approach means that the great majority of our students go on to university in the UK or elsewhere, with many enjoying success at Cambridge, Oxford, LSE and other top universities in subjects ranging from international business to law and medicine.
